My Style Routine

When it comes to styling, I really try to stick to one or two products. But my hair tends to get a bit frizzier, especially in the warmer months, so I usually top off my styles with a stronger gel.

Once washed or refreshed, I spray in some leave-in or a detangler to brush through any remaining knots. If needed, I add a very small amount of natural oil to my scalp. I only use the oil if I notice my hair is a little drier. Then, I section my hair into four parts and thoroughly apply a styling cream into each part. Last but not least, I finish off my style with a strong hold gel to ensure a frizz free finish. With both stylers, I rake the products through my curls then use the praying hands motion to smooth out the strands.

I usually air dry, unless I’m in a rush and need to diffuse. When my hair is fully dried, I shake out my hair at the roots with my fingers to add some volume, you can also use a pick and lightly fluff from roots to about halfway through. Throughout the week, depending on the day and how my hair is holding up, I will use gels with light or medium hold to not avoid product buildup on my hair. If my hair is refreshed enough with water, I won’t use a leave-in or detangler to help re-style my hair and just get straight to it!

Here is a list of some of my go-to styling product combos:

  • TreLuxe Curl Supreme Styling Creme, Re-Flex Curl Styling Serum + Curl Enhancer Styling Gel
  • Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie + Dippity-Do Girls With Curls Gelee
  • Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Defining Cream + Frizz Control Sculpting Gel
  • CurlSmith Weightless Air Dry Cream + Hydro Style Flexi Jelly
  • CurlSmith In-Shower Style Fixer

Luckily, just like washing, styling is not a one size fits all. You must remember that every curl pattern is different, and what works for one person may be totally off for another. So switch things up, experiment, and see what works best for you!

Naturally, Taylor 💙
